Dr Alison Elliot OBE
What an interesting lady Dr Alison Elliot turned out to be when she came to talk about "In a voluntary capacity, thoughts on working for nothing". She felt she was fortunate to be able to work in this way as she did not really require a second salary so was able to fill her days and give much to society.
When her children reached the teenage years she decided to do voluntary work, of which much was connected to the Church of Scotland and sitting on various committees. Through these connections she became the first lady Moderator of the General Assembly. She told us about having to travel throughout her year of office and even to give sermons which, as she was not a minister, was all very new to her. She travelled to many countries and met many very interesting people.
