Richmond's Hope Charity Day/ Rev Liz Henderson

Our annual charity meeting where the charity is chosen by the past President was this year another local children's charity.  Some years ago the minister at Craigmillar Richmond Kirk, the Rev Liz Henderson saw a need for counselling for children who had lost parents or siblings. This came about because of her involvement in her own Parish not long after beginning her work there and a number of personal disasters occurred within her congregation which she had to deal with (including one in her own family).  She set about helping by counselling and taking courses etc with the help of a team leader who had lost her son so in time as it grew formed a Charity called Richmond's Hope.  They help children of all ages and from all over Lothian.  Some have had a lot to take in during their young lives from suicide, murder, accident and death from cancer of near and dear ones.

This may sound a very morbid talk but Liz delivered it with humour and great feeling and gave us an insight as to how much can be done to help.  They are now opening a centre in Glasgow, they already have one in Carrickknowe as well as the original one at Craigmillar.

The collection at the end of this meeting was so generous and surpassed all our expectations, £525-50 whish the club increased to a TOTAL of £550-00

Thank you to all the members who were present and gave so generously to a very worthy charity
